In Rajouri, Sikh aspirants wearing ‘Kirpan’ not allowed to enter exam hall: SPF

Taking a serious note of the high-headed attitude of Police authorities & District administration Rajouri for not allowing Sikh aspirants wearing Kirpan to appear in the Sub Inspector examination held on Sunday at DPS Public School Rajouri for more than half an hour President Sikh Progressive Front (SPF), Balvinder Singh said that wearing Kirpan is a mandatory obligation for Amritdhari Sikhs under statutory provisions enshrined in Article 25 of Constitution of India, which guarantee religious freedom to every citizen.

Speaking during a meeting of SPF in Jammu on Monday, attended by Manjit Singh, Rajinder Singh Sudan, Surinder Singh Wazir and Sharanjit Singh, President SPF stated that provocative attitude of administration not only hurt sentiments of entire Sikh community but aspirants really felt humiliated.

He further said, “Issue was resolved only when he gave called Pranav Kumar Principal Private Secretary to LG, DC Rajouri Vikas Kundal & SSP Rajouri, who intervened into the matter and allowed aspirants were allowed to enter the examination centre after a wait of 30 to 45 minutes.”

The SPF urged the administration especially DGP Dilbag Singh to take a serious note of the incident and get the matter investigated besides make erring officials accountable for their misconduct.

The SPF members also requested for holding a special training session for officials to make them aware of religious rights of citizens.
