In a heartwarming display of communal harmony and bravery, Shia and Sunni youth joined forces to combat a devastating fire incident in Wani Mohalla, Botakadal, Srinagar.
The incident, which occurred on Wednesday, highlighted the unwavering spirit of brotherhood among the two communities.
Eyewitnesses reported that the fire broke out in the densely populated Wani Mohalla around 8 PM. Within minutes, the flames had engulfed a residential house, threatening to spread further.
However, before the fire and emergency department could arrive, local youth sprang into action, armed with buckets of water and whatever they could find.
The brave youngsters, mostly Sunni youth from nearby localities, formed a human chain to combat the inferno.
“Their selfless efforts and determination to save their neighborhood ultimately paid off, as they managed to bring the fire under control,” an inmate told The Kashmiriyat.
The inmate said that it was only because of Sunni youth that the fire was stopped from spreading to the nearby house.
Despite significant damage to property, their intervention prevented the fire from spreading further.
The fire and emergency department arrived approximately 30 minutes later and helped to extinguish the remaining flames. By that time, the local youth had already done the bulk of the work, showcasing remarkable courage and teamwork
The incident has been widely praised as a shining example of Shia-Sunni brotherhood and communal harmony in the valley. Local residents expressed their gratitude and admiration for the youth’s selfless efforts.
“This is what Kashmir is all about—our unity, our brotherhood, and our resilience in the face of adversity,” said Abrar Ali, a local resident.
“We are proud of our youth, who have shown that we stand together, regardless of our differences,” he added.
