India Number 7 in Worst Covid Hit Nations

A day after overtaking Germany, India went past France in total count of Covid-19 positive cases.

As the number of new COVID-19 cases in the country continued to rise the death toll rose to 5,604. The total number of cases in the country now stands at 1,98,182 including 96,988 active cases while 94,036 persons have been cured/discharged/migrated, according to data from the State Health departments.

On the first day of India’s unlocking phase, the number of fresh infections dipped slightly to 7,573, while the death toll remained above 200 for the fourth straight day.

The Government of India has said that it is taking several steps along with the States/UTs for prevention, containment and management of COVID-19. These are being regularly reviewed and monitored at the highest level.

After several days of reporting over 1,000 fresh cases, Delhi’s count dipped slightly to 990 on Monday. However, the city reported 50 deaths, taking the total toll past 500, to 523.

Gujarat recorded 423 positive cases in 24 hours ending 5 pm on Monday, taking the total to 17,217. The new cases include 314 from Ahmedabad, 39 from Surat, 31 from Vadodara and 11 from Gandhinagar.

In Kashmir, the number of cases has gone past 2600 while with the death of three more persons on Monday, the death toll went up to 31.
