International Women’s Day Observed in Anantnag and Kupwara Colleges

The International Women’s Day was celebrated at Degree College Kupwara wherein 100 students attended the event which included 40 boys.

The function was addressed by Farooq Ahmed, the Principal, wherein the historical context and relevance of the Day was elaborated upon. Mrs. Tahira Bhat, a women professor from the college

She brought out outstanding achievements of women of Kashmir and motivated young girls to draw inspiration from them and to chase their dreams.

She also called upon the boys to understand the importance of women in societies world over and in Kashmir. Her address to the boys stuck the right chord in them too.

Colonel MS Navalgatti, CO, Humadard-E-Kupwara Battalion addressed the young gathering and brought out important skilling initiatives taken by Army in Kupwara and motivated the youth to empower themselves in all respects and empower the society in turn.

He also announced a ‘ Video Artist Competition’ for the youth to bring out the creativity in them.

Attendance of boys and their reciprocal grasp of the issues discussed on an event of Women’s Day was the highlight of the event.

While the Government Degree College for Women Anantnag in collaboration with KRV Foundation also organized a one-day seminar under the theme “Women Empowerment.”

In her inaugural speech, Rafia Khaki DLSA Secretary laid emphasis on imbibing the virtues of equality in our day-to-day life. She threw some light on the condition of women in the pre-Islamic world and how the religion of Islam came as a saviour for women and ensured their socio-economic upliftment.

On this occasion Deputy Commissioner Anshul Garg, Secretary education department Sanjeev Raina, Principal GDC women Ali Mohammad Dar, Shazia Bashir, Ridwana Sanam and other staffers of college, as well as the education department participated in the seminar.

Government Degree College Women Principal Ali Mohammad Dar while speaking on the occasion, exhorted the audience to treat women with respect and compassion. He drew parallels between the western and sub-continental socio-cultural set-ups which either limit or help in the process of women empowerment.

The speaker highlighted that “We live in a better world but not in a just world”. Also, women empowerment in the Islamic perspective was highlighted in the Seminar.

Ridwana Sanam KRV Foundation Secretary while addressing and said “It is a day to celebrate the spirit of all women, who have played extraordinary roles in shaping their families, society and organizations with an untiring determination. we will distribute awards among students as encouragement appreciation tokens who do better for society.
