Internet Barred in South Kashmir ahead of Polls

Mobile internet services have been barred in South Kashmir Districts of Pulwama, Shopian, Kulgam and Islamabad (Anantnag) ahead of the Urban Local body polls scheduled to begin on the eighth day of October.

A Telecom official told The Kashmiriyat that they have received an order to bar internet services in South Kashmir’s Islamabad (Anantnag) and Pulwama, and in Shopian and Kulgam they were asked to reduce the internet speed.

However Locals from Kulgam and Shopian said that Internet has been barred in the entire South Kashmir region.

No Official confirmation could be received regarding the barring of Internet Services, However sources informed The Kashmiriyat that the services have been barred as a precautionary measure for the upcoming polls.
