Iran Records Highest One-Day Coronavirus Deaths; WHO Drug Trials Fail

The number of fatalities in Iran rise to 11,571 as health authorities record 163 new deaths due to coronavirus.

Iranian official health ministry announces the highest number of deaths from COVID-19 within a day period.

The Iranian health ministry had recorded 162 deaths in a 24-hour period last Monday.

However, on Sunday, the deaths in Iran due to coronavirus exceed previous records by reaching a toll of 163.

Other middle eastern countries, namely the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Ariba, experienced an increase in coronavirus cases after the pandemic lockdowns were fully lifted last month.

The WHO stated that it was discontinuing trials of the malaria drug hydroxychloroquine and combination HIV drug lopinavir/ritonavir after COVID-19 positive patients failed to respond to the medications with respect to mortality rates.
