Selected parts of a video are being circulated by various social media users and Indian TV news channels showing a cleric from Rajouri giving a “provocative speech.”

various social media users mocked the cleric and several demanded police and legal action against the cleric identified as Mufti Farooq Ahmed, who delivers a Friday sermon in Jamia Masjid Rajouri.

Upon verifying, we found that selected parts of the entire video which is around 2 minutes and thirty seconds were pulled out and widely circulated to create a misleading picture.

In the video, Mufti Farooq was talking about how the release of ‘The Kashmir Files’ has created a sense of hatred towards Muslims of India. He said, “Not only Pandits but so many Kashmir Muslims have been also killed but it doesn’t concern them rather they came up with a movie which has created a state of threat for Muslims of India.”

“The movie is a conspiracy against the Muslims of India,” Mufti Farooq Ahmad said.

In a visible reference to incidents of mob lynching and assaulting of Muslims in various states of India, he said, “the incidents will not erase Muslims, but will lead to the devastation of those who want to destroy Muslims.”

Mufti Farooq said, “The release of this movie is an attempt to create unnecessary rifts between Hindus and Muslims of India, which we (Muslims) won’t let happen at any cost.”

Mufti Farooq further said that politicians should stop using the issue of Hindu-Muslims for political gains, there are many other issues which should be addressed upon rather than creating rifts among citizens.
