Senior National Conference (NC) leader Tanvir Sadiq reaffirmed the government’s commitment to its election promise of providing 200 units of free electricity to households across Jammu Kashmir.

He announced that the scheme would officially commence in March 2025.

Speaking to reporters, Sadiq clarified that while the government could implement the scheme immediately, doing so would require additional power cuts—a measure they wish to avoid.

“This promise is not symbolic; it’s a concrete step. We are finalizing the modalities to roll it out without compromising the current power supply,” Sadiq said, adding that a formal announcement would follow in March.

The initiative is expected to bring significant relief to residents amid rising energy prices.

Sadiq expressed confidence that it would improve the quality of life and align with the government’s broader developmental goals.

Addressing speculation about friction between Raj Bhavan and the elected government, Sadiq dismissed such rumors as baseless. “There is no rift. Jammu Kashmir is a Union Territory, and cooperation between institutions is essential for effective governance,” he stated.

This announcement underscores the NC government’s focus on fulfilling its electoral promises while maintaining essential services. It marks a step forward in its vision for a stable and prosperous future for the people of Jammu Kashmir.
