Announcing the Union Budget for 2021-22 on Monday, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said that the gas pipeline project would be started in Jammu Kashmir.
Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha praised the central government for the announcement of the project.

Major announcements in the Union Budget for the power infrastructure sector include expansion of the Ujjwala scheme to include 1 crore more beneficiaries, including 100 more districts in the city’s gas distribution network over the next 3 years, and the establishment of independent gas transport.
The Finance Minister announced a power distribution reform plan of Rs 3,05,984 crore over 5 years to empower power distribution companies (discoms). Key features of the plan include prepaid smart metering, feeder separation and upgrade systems.
Ms. Sitharaman also announced the Hydrogen Energy Mission 2021-22 to generate hydrogen from green sources.
