Spokesman of Jamaat-e-Islami, Advocate Zahid Ali said Monday that he was put under preventive detention for five days. He also praised Jammu and Kashmir police for behaving nicely, terming the treatment meted out to him as extraordinary fine.
In a statement issued to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), Ali said that he will remember the treatment meted out to him by the police forever.
“Soon after Syed Ali Geelani passed away, a police party headed by Station House Officer (SHO) Police Station Kakapora reached the main gate of my residence at Nehama and he telephonically informed me very nicely and very politely to come out,” he said.
“Without any delay, I came out and opened the main gate of my house and asked the reason for visiting at the midnight. The SHO very politely informed me of the orders of taking me into preventive detention. “I was kept in the SHO’s room with all politeness. This politeness if demonstrated by the police generally will make it a popular force amongst the public for the protection of whose rights it has been created,” he said, adding that it was 1:27 AM on 1st of September 2021 intervening night between Wednesday and Thursday when this police party reached his house.
“Finally on 4th of September at 5 pm, I was released. The treatment of police was extraordinary fine and nice which I shall remember forever but my detention was in no way justified or justifiable,” he said—(KNO)
