The Jammu Kashmir administration has sent a notice to Mehbooba Mufti asking her to evacuate her residence on Srinagar’s Gupkar road.

As per the new laws imposed in Jammu Kashmir post the abrogation of Article 370, the former CMs are no longer entitled to official accommodation.

A spokesperson of the People’s Democratic Party confirming the development to The Kashmiriyat said that Mehbooba Mufti had moved to the Gupkar residence along with her father after the Government cited security reasons and moved them to the ‘Fairview residence’ in December 2005.

“It is the Government’s policy. The decision does not change anything, The Government shifted Mufti’s to Gupkar in 2005 and they abided by the official orders and we will do the same now,” PDP spokesperson said.

Pertinently, the residence of Muftis was formerly an infamous torture center, known as PAPA-2 till 1989, Fairview served as an official guest house and was used as a torture center till 1996.

The same year, Ashok Jaitley, former Chief Secretary of the State moved in and used it as his residence. In 2003, Fairview served as the residence of Muzaffar Hussain Baig, the then-finance minister.
