Former JNU student activist, Umar Khalid tests Covid-19 positive in Delhi’s Tihar Jail. There are around 227 active cases of Covid-19 among the prisoners in the Tihar Jail.

Khalid, who has been lodged inside the Jail under UAPA, for alleged involvement in the Delhi 2020 violence, has been shifted to an isolated ward within the prison.

Khalid’s RT PCR report came on Saturday, the jail officials confirmed. The doctors have been taking care of him and that all of the tests were performed and that he is fine, they informed.

“#UmarKhalid tested positive for Covid after an antigen test was conducted on the instructions of the court. He has been kept in isolation on the advice of the doctor. Please keep him in your prayers!”, his father tweeted on Sunday.

Meanwhile, the news has emerged that Siddique Kappan’s wife wrote a letter to the Chief Justice of India saying how his condition is in serious risk.

Sidiqi Kappan, a Kerala based journalist, who was booked under the UAPA while he was on his way to meet the Hathras Rape victim’s family, who was allegedly gang-raped by men from a dominant caste in the region, was diagnosed with Covid-19 on April 21, and is undergoing treatment at the KM Medical College and Hospital, Mathura, Uttar Pradesh.

Raihana, his wife, wrote to CJI Ramana, alleging that Kappan has been tied to the hospital bed, has not been able to take food for the past four days or use the toilet either.

“Kappan is chained like an animal to a cot of the Medical College Hospital, Mathura, without mobility, and he could neither take food nor go to the toilet for more than four days, and is very critical. If immediate corrective steps are not taken, it will result in his untimely death,” she wrote.
