The Jammu-Srinagar national highway remained closed on Sunday for the fifth consecutive day due to snowfall and landslides, officials said.
Traffic department officials said there has been fresh snowfall in the Banihal area, and landslides at some places in the Banihal-Ramban stretch of the road.
“Around three feet snow accumulated on the road. Landslides have occurred at Anokhi Fall, Panthal and Kela Mode,” a traffic department official said.
“No traffic movement will be allowed on the highway on Sunday except for the stranded vehicles and that too, only after the road is cleared,” the official added.
Inclement weather has led to the closure of the strategic Jammu-Srinagar highway this winter many times.
Meanwhile the students of Kashmir University stranded on Srinagar-Jammu highway demanded airlifting by the state administration.
