Kashmir reports 8 casualties in July; ‘Least’ in 2022 so far

Four local militants and an ‘infiltrator’ were killed this month in Kashmir Valley.

This month (July) 6 gunfights raged between militants and joint forces, however, in two encounters, militants managed to escape from the encounter spot.

The data available with the news agency Kashmir News Trust reveals that 5 militants, a soldier, a trooper and a policeman were killed in Kashmir Valley in the month of July.

A soldier and an infiltrator were killed in Tanghdar Sector of Kupwara on 8 July while on 11 July two militants including Kaisar Rashid Koka of Tengpora Keigam and Ishfaq Nabi Lone of Lelhar Pulwama were killed in South Kashmir’s Wandakpora Awantipora encounter.

Two more militants Akhtar Hussain Bhat alias Abid Bhai, resident of Trich, Kupwara and Irshad Ahmad Bhat, a resident of Baramulla’s Pattan were killed in two separate encounter in Wanigam and Binner villages of North Kashmir’s Baramulla district.

In one of the encounters in the month of July two newly recruited local militants Kafeel Javaid Mir of Mirpora Qaimoh and Nadeem Abbas Bhat of Reshipora Qaimoh surrendered before the joint forces during an encounter at Hadigam Kulgam on July 6.

This month overall 8 casualties were reported including 5 militants and 3 armed forces personnel. Besides, an army dog ‘Axel’ also lost life in Baramulla Wanigam encounter.

Militants on 12 July attacked a police party in Lal Bazar area of Srinagar killing ASI Mushtaq Ahmed of Soch village of Kulgam and injuring two other cops. Besides, militants attacked a check post in Gangoo Pulwama on 17 July killing a CRPF Inspector Vinod Kumar (182 Battalion) of Farukabad UP.

Militants also shot at a cop Firdous Ahmed who was injured in the attack at Hugam Sri Gufwara area of South Kashmir’s Anantnag district.

The data shows that joint forces neutralized 5 militants including an infiltrator while in January this year 21 militants were killed followed by 7 militants in February, 13 in March, 24 in April, 27 in May and 33 militants in June.

Like in January, no civilian lost his life in the militancy-related incidents this month.

January reported 23 casualties in Kashmir Valley followed by 11 in February, 24 in March, 31 in April, 37 each in May and June and 8 in the concluding month of July. (KNT)
