During the ongoing third wave of COVID-19, healthcare workers are accomplishing a remarkable feat in containing, dealing with, diagnosing, and treating COVID-19 cases — often against daunting odds.

Those in the healthcare sector put their own lives and wellbeing at risk to treat individuals with COVID-19. These workers are now going the extra mile in this harsh winters to make Covid-19 vaccination available at the doorstep of the people living in far flung snow bound areas of Kashmir.

In Kashmir’s Baramulla district, a team of health workers under the supervision of Block Medical Officer, Boniyar Dr. Parvaiz Masoodi, who had achieved the target of 100% vaccination during the initial phases are now upto another mark.

Considering the demographical conditions of the region, health workers of Primary Health Center, Boniyar have managed to travel almost 10 to 12 kms on feet to vaccinate the population which is mostly tribal in the Maidanan, Chotali, Dudran, Darkunjan and many other places of Boniyar block.

While talking to The Kashmiriyat, Block Medical Officer, Primary Health Center, Boniyar Dr. Parvaiz Masoodi said, “We have successfully managed to complete the first and second dose of Covid-19 vaccination in our block. Now the prime concern is to give booster dose of vaccine to the people of our block.”

It’s pertinent to mention here that the target of 100% vaccination has been achieved by PHC, Boniyar and now the health workers are doing booster doses for the age group of 60 plus. “The milestone achievement of 45% of vaccination of age group 14-17 years has been achieved in a short period of time as the drive was launched on the first week of January,” BMO, Boniyar further added.

As the world tackles with another devastating variant ‘Omicron,’ the bordering town of Uri in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district has witnessed its first-ever Omicron Case, too. The case was that of a pregnant lady from a hilly Village of Tehsil Uri. The case created panic among the inhabitants as people were totally unaware about these variants.

The local residents of Darkujan village of Boniyar tehsil, which gets cut from the rest of the world during the snowfall in respect to the road connectivity, have got vaccinated with the booster dose as the health workers of PHC Boniyar have managed to reach there amidst snowfall and road blockade.

The locals thanked and appreciated the administration for making the vaccination available at their doorsteps.
