Kathua Man Held in Pakistani Prison for Spying Returns Home After 29 Years

A man from Jammu Kashmir’s Kathua district returned home after spending 29 years in a jail in Pakistan for spying.

“I was languishing in Pakistan jail for the past 29 years. What the Indian Government did for us? It simply abandoned me,” Kuldeep Singh told The Tribune.

Kuldeep (53) was among two prisoners released by Pakistan on Monday.

Kuldeep as per the report suffered torture for three years at the hands of Pakistan agencies before he was produced in a court for espionage which ultimately sent him to 25 years of imprisonment.

Kuldeep was arrested in 1992, but his family came was not informed regarding his whereabouts. Only after four years when he was shifted to a Jail in Lahore, he sent a letter to his family informing them that he was in Lahore’s Kot Lakhpat Jail.

“For the past eight years, I am not in touch with my family due to restrictions in Pakistan jail following the killing of Sarabjit Singh,” The Tribune quoted Singh.
