As the war between Russia and Ukraine intensifies and Russia shows no signs of backing down despite western sanctions, US Congressman Eric Swalwell has said that Russian students should be kicked out of the United States.
“Frankly, I think…kicking every Russian student out of the United States, should be on the table,” he told CNN.
The remark was backed by Ruben Gallego (D–Ariz.) tweeting, “These Russian students are the sons and daughters of the richest Russians. A strong message can be sent by sending them home.”
Meanwhile, Russian sports teams are being stopped from participating in European tournaments.
The organizations that oversee professional tennis said that they prohibit Russia and Belarus from competing in team events.
The Russian men’s national team was scheduled to play Poland in a play-off for Qatar 2022 on March 24 – a match Poland said they would boycott – but the Poles have now been given a bye to the next round of qualifying.
Russian side Spartak Moscow has also been “kicked out” of the Europa League due to the ongoing war in Ukraine.
