KRA urges admin to allow on-street parking in view of Eid-ul-Adha

Complaining of the slump in footfall for Eid shopping due to the shortage of parking lots in Kashmir markets, especially in the summer capital of Srinagar markets, Kashmir Retailers Association affiliated has sought the personal intervention of Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha.

In a statement, issued to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), KRA president, Farhan Kitab said even though the traffic police department was doing its job to regulate traffic, restrictions on-street parking have affected business in Srinagar markets in particular.

He said that the existing parking lots are either jampacked or there are no parking lots at places and as a result, the shoppers shy away from coming to main markets which have affected the business of the trader community even ahead of the Eid ul Azha.

He said that the J&K administration must create a mechanism to allow on-street parking of vehicles as otherwise shopkeepers are being pushed to starvation.

“Moreover, markets should look flooded with a rush. A deserted street with no vehicles and no shoppers is no healthy market,” he added—(KNO)
