The University of Kashmir has scheduled offline exams of the students including fifth semester students of B.Tech. The decision of the university has flustered the students who have defied the decision of university to hold offline exams amid spike in Covid-19 cases.
The students alleged that the university was putting their lives in danger owing to the increase in COVID-19 cases in the valley. The students also alleged that the authorities delayed that exams, which were supposed to commence in October.

The National Students Union of India (NSUI) Kashmir highlighting the issue tweeted, “@KmrUniversity is going to conduct offline exams of Even semesters of Engineering Deptt. It’s very Unfortunate that other Universities of states are completing their Odd Session but this so-called Prestigious University is failed in conducting Exams on time.”

A student of 6th semester (Name withheld) while talking to The Kashmiriyat about the issue said that despite the fact that there is a spike in covid cases in the valley the university is persistent to hold the exams in offline mode. “Our whole semester was bases on the online study mode. First they delayed our exams unnecessarily citing different reasons and now they’re forcing us to appear for offline exams.”
“Due to the sustained delay of exams by the authorities we are lagging by a semester. All the universities hold exams on time but ours are always delayed,” he added.
Claiming that the university is putting the lives of students at stake, the agitated student said, “When Covid-19 cases are on rise, how is it safe for us to attend exams offline. By attending the exams offline, we are forced to put not only our lives but lives of our family members in danger as well.”
“I have grandparents at home, what if I contract Covid-19 in offline exams? I may recover easily but it won’t be same for my grandparents,” the student said.
Another student (name withheld), a 4th semester student, while talking to The Kashmiriyat said, “They have decided to conduct our exams even when classes were conducted online. They unnecessarily delayed our exams back from October due to which we are already a semester behind.”
“All other universities have already conducted the exams of odd semesters and our university is yet to commence the exams of even semesters. The University of Jammu also conducted the exams via online mode but our university seems unconcerned about the students,” the student added.
“They are insouciant towards competing our degree within time. They have delayed our exams so far and now want to conduct it offline. Even the classes weren’t satisfactory enough,” he added.
Demanding the exams to be conducted via online mode the student added that if they conduct our classes online, they should also conduct our exams via online mode.
The Kashmiriyat spoke to Sunny Parihar, President NSUI, talking about the issue of Kashmiri students he said that he spoke to the secretary of Lt. Governor about the issue and is working to resolve the issue of students.
“The Kashmir University authority is adamant but we will try our best to work for the benifit of the students,” he added.
He further said that if the authorities fail to resolve the issue of students, he along with students will hold a protest against the authorities in the University.
The Kashmiriyat tried to speak to the concerned authorities but they refused to talk over the call.
