The defunct drainage system in Chatabal ward number nine (9) in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district is giving a tough time to locals.

Speaking to The Kashmiriyat, the locals said that the drainage system in ward no number has gone defunct due to which the dirty water of the drains is now entering their lawns.

The locals said despite bringing the issue to the notice of the Municipal council Kulgam several times, nothing has been done so far.

“The drainage system is in poor condition. A few hours of rainfall results in waterlogging on roads creating inconvenience to pedestrians. The situation will turn worse when it snows and rains. The Municipal council Kulgam is turning a blind eye to the problems,” said a resident of the area.

The drain is fully clogged due to which water comes out and gives tough time to locals and commuters, they said.

They added that the residents are facing problems and they have to cross lanes in which the dirty water enters. “The drain water also spreads foul smell in the area due to which locals feel vulnerable to many diseases,” they added.

They requested higher-ups to look into the matter and take immediate steps in this regard so that locals would not suffer anymore.
