Kupwara minor’s murder: Father killed his daughter, slit her throat, says Police

Trigger warning:

A father has killed his own daughter in the Kupwara district of north Kashmir, Police said.

The Police have said that Iqbal, the father of the murdered minor used to resort to domestic violence. He beat his wife for over a year and on the night of the murder, he beat his wife who responded by slapping him. He wanted to teach his wife a lesson. So, he killed his daughter.

On Wednesday, a minor girl was found dead in Khurhama Zab area of Lolab in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.

Her throat-slit body was found outside her home and her head buried under a cement bag, her family had told The Kashmiriyat.

Jammu Kashmir Police on Monday held a press conference and said that the minor girl was strangulated by her father and then her throat was slit in the shed, where her body was later found by her mother.

Police said that several suspects had been rounded up which included Mohammed Iqbal, the father of the 8-year-old girl.

“After investigation, the role of the father of girl Muhammad Iqbal Khatana as the prime suspect came to fore. After interrogation, the father confessed that he had first choked his daughter inside his vehicle and then took her to a tin shed where he slit her throat,” SSP Kupwara Yougal Manhas said.

Earlier that evening (Wednesday), Police said, Iqbal used to fight with his wife for over a year. On March 29, he had a brawl with his wife over some issue and in the evening, the fight continued after which his wife had even slapped him.

“To vent his anger, Iqbal took a sharp knife along and left his home. Some locals including his uncle had seen him taking his daughter along in his vehicle,” the SSP said. “Iqbal first choked his daughter inside the vehicle. She died on the spot. He then took his vehicle near a tin shed where he slit his daughter’s throat and left her there,” he stated.
