‘Left on our own’: Kashmiri Hajis complain of ‘no facilities’ during Holy pilgrimage

Several Kashmiris who have gone for the holy Islamic pilgrimage of Hajj have complained of inadequate facilities provided to them by the authorities.

Abdul Gani Itoo, One of the Haji spoke to The Kashmiriyat over the phone stating that nobody from the authorities had visited them since they reached Medina for the holy pilgrimage on June 21.

“Mashallah, up until we arrived at the Hajj house, everything was well-organized. We were satisfied and hoped everything to be fine afterwards. However, We were left in the lurch, once we left Hajj House. After the bus dropped us off at the Hotel Huda in Medina, no one gave a damn about our well-being, whether we required any guidance to adhere to the schedule, or whether the facilities were there or not. Sadly, no manual was offered to us,” Abdul Gani said.

Stating that the hotel also had not been informed of their schedule, he said, “We had only been in the hotel for three days, the hotel management gave us the order to depart. We had to stop them from dragging us out of the hotel on our own, when they tried to. Had the authorities informed them of our schedule, such humilation could have been stopped.”

Furthermore, he said, there are no guides here to inform us of the Hajj schedule or the places we ought to visit or see. “No guide has reached us so far,” he told The Kashmiriyat.

Speaking on the pathetic condition of the accommodation, he said, “Not even 200 rupees are worth these accommodations. There are no washrooms here. Making wudu is tough, taking a bath is challenging, and there is no provision for washing clothes.”
