An 8-year-old boy, Rehan Suhail, from the Kashwa area of Chetragam in Shopian was attacked by a leopard on Monday evening.
Locals said Rehan was riding his bicycle around 7 p.m. when he was attacked by an unknown animal, later identified as a leopard.
Villagers told The Kashmiriyat that they quickly intervened and rescued the boy.
He was first taken to Shopian Hospital, from where doctors referred him to Government Medical College (GMC) Anantnag for further treatment.
Authorities have urged residents to remain vigilant, particularly in areas near forests, as leopard sightings have reportedly increased in parts of Shopian in recent weeks.
