Surge in stray dogs in Ganderbal district has become a cause of concern for the inhabitants as they are not able to move freely.

Locals of several villages in Ganderbal told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), that the problem is serious with but the concerned authorities are turning a deaf ear to this issue of public importance.

Locals said that packs of dogs can be seen on the prowl at various areas with stray dogs posing a grave threat to the life of people especially children, elders and women. They said that it has become difficult for them to move around during morning and evening hours.

Many attribute the rise in dog population to their transportation from urban areas during night hours. Dogs can be seen in busy markets of Kangan, Prang, Wussan, Fethpora, Ganderbal town and other places.

“We are living under threat due to the dog menace. We cannot move freely on roads or go to mosque during wee hours,” said Aijaz Tantray of Ganderbal.

On May 3, a minor girl suffered injuries after she was attacked by a pack of dogs in Haknar area of Gund resulting in multiple injuries to her. She was shifted to PHC Gund for treatment from where she has been referred to SKIMS Soura—(KNO)
