Man allegedly rapes daughter in north Kashmir, Locals demand strict action

Protests hit Dudran area of Boniyar in north Kashmir as locals demanded action against a man who allegedly raped his ‘minor’ daughter.

Speaking to The Kashmiriyat locals said that on Sunday, scores of residents hit the streets of the north Kashmir village demanding punishment to Rafiq Ahmed Mir, a resident of Dudran who allegedly raped his daughter, repeatedly.

“Protesters have vandalized some property owned by the family after which the police swung into action,” they said.

A local said that a few days back a minor girl (name withheld), complained of abdominal pain to her close relative, after which she was taken to a nearby hospital.

He said that the girl had revealed the incident to her aunt who informed her husband about the same.

“Initially, they suspected the pain was an outcome of tapeworms, but upon being diagnosed at the hospital, they came to know that the minor girl was pregnant,” he added.

Upon hearing that she was pregnant, the girl was grief struck and ran away from the hospital.

“He (The accused) had allegedly had asked his wife to not reveal the same to anyone and had threatened her that if she did, he will set her ablaze or divorce her,” the local told The Kashmiriyat.

He further said that the accused has a history of drug peddling and was verbal abuser.

Officials in the Health Department said that few days back, a girl with her relatives had came to the hospital OPD in Boniyar and that after her medical checkup, it came to surface that she was pregnant.

“They had come to the Hospital OPD, when her pregnancy was detected, they fled from the Hospital,” he said.

“Later, we came to know that they had gone to Baramulla for further treatment,” he added.

Official sources told The Kashmiriyat that a case has been registered in this regard and that some arrests have been made. “Further investigation into the matter is going on,” he said.

“The investigation is in its preliminary stage, we are waiting for the medical tests. We can only tell you after the reports are out,” they said.
