Water pipes will soon be inside every home in the Benaad region of Salar in south Kashmir’s Anantnag. The locals’ persistent requests for water service have gone unheard over the last 60 years.
This was possible only after a local named Mohammed Maqbool Mir, a 50-year-old resident of the area donated his land free of cost for the construction of a borewell, from where water will be supplied to over hundred houses.
“People in this area had been craving for water. We have to use natural water resources for bathing and drinking purposes but the water is not always feasible for drinking purposes. Transporting water from one place to other has been a constant struggle of several generation of our ancestors,” said Mohammed Maqbool.
Seeing such plight of the local residents, he decided to donate a patch of his land for the construction of the borewell for which the inauguration was done on Monday, Maqbool said.
Various dignitaries including the DC Anantnag, DDC members along with others were present for the occasion which also saw an overwhelming presence of local residents.
Hailing Mohammed Maqbool as a hero, the locals of the area told The Kashmiriyat that the government had made repeated requests for donating land for borewell, however, nobody donated the land. “Maqbool’s donation has come as a blessing for us all,” a local resident said.
