Massive Searches Launched for Missing Kupwara Cop

The security forces have launched a massive search for the missing cop who fled with weapons from the house of a BJP leader in North Kashmir.

A top security official from Kupwara told The Kashmiriyat that a personal security officer posted with Bhartiya Janta party member Abdul Rashid Zargar fled with two AK 47 Rifles, three magazines on Sunday night.

He said that the cop has been missing along with his friend since yesternight.

The duo identified as Saqib Ahmed Tantray Son of Sanaullah Tantray and Arif Ahmed Mir son of Bashir Ahmed Mir, both residents of Bohipora in North Kashmir’s Kupwara district.

“We have started searching them and issued a warning for the public to be safe from the duo,” the official said.

This is not the first time that a cop has gone missing with their service rifles. Such incidents have happened in the past too.

On March 27, 2015, Naseer was posted as a security guard at the residence of Altaf Bukhari, Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) MLA and I&B minister, in Srinagar fled with two AK 47 rifles and later joined Militants.

In year 2017 constable Ishfaq Dar from Heff shopian, constable syed Naveed Mushtaq from Nazimpora Shopian and an army man Zahoor Ahmad from Sirnoo village of Pulwama has also joined militant ranks.

On 25 April 2018, a constable namely Tariq Bhat (belt number 1151) son of Mohammad Abdullah Bhat of Khasipora Shopian gone missing from Pakherpora area of budgam district where he was posted joined militant ranks.

On 10 April, the same year, an Army man namely Idrees Ahmad Mir son of Mohammad sultan Mir resident of Safanagri shopian who was posted in Bihar with Jammu and Kashmir light infantry (JKLI) also joined militant ranks.
