On Wednesday night when Press Enclave, Srinagar was witnessing the protests by the victim civilian families, i.e., Dr. Mudasir and Mohammed Altaf’s families in the cold and harsh winters for the dead bodies of their loved ones, Kashmir saw a young and enthusiastic Sikh youth activist who was standing shoulder to shoulder with them to demand the same from the Government.
Angad Singh Khalsa who is a Human Rights activist joined the protesting families from Wednesday morning till late night when Kashmir police foiled the 12 hours long peaceful sit-in, here, at Central Kashmir’s Srinagar.
A resident of Srinagar, Angad is a pursuing graduation through distance learning. Angad lives with his family in Kashmir.
In January too, Angad was seen alongside the families of three persons killed in Lawaypora Srinagar on December 30.
The families claimed that their children were killed in a fake encounter and were innocent. The father of Athar Mushtaq, one of the slain, protested for several days to demand the dead bodies back. Angad was always seen besides the grevieing father.
“We demand that a fair probe be launched into the incident and the dead bodies be handed back to the families,” Angad Singh had said in January 2021.
Netizens lauded the efforts of Angad Singh Khalsa who stood firm with the family who were demanding bodies to perform the last rites of their kin, i.e., Mohammed Altaf and Dr. Mudasir.
A twitter user name Syed Owais took to his Twitter handle and wrote “At this time when we all are staying in our rooms this guy choose to stay with the families of slain civilians demanding dead bodies at press enclave. He can be seen on every news portal standing with those families in these harsh winters, Salute you my brother Angad singh Khalsa.”
The activist along with the families were detained by the Jammu Kashmir Police.
Speaking to The Kashmiriyat Angad Singh confirmed that he has been released.
