Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) President Mehbooba Mufti accused the government on Wednesday of using force, imprisonment, and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) to impose peace in Kashmir.

Speaking to the youth wing delegates of the PDP at her Srinagar residence, Mufti reiterated the party’s commitment to pursuing peaceful and democratic solutions.

She praised the youth for their efforts during the recent parliamentary elections, according to a party statement.

Mufti also pointed out the troubling levels of unemployment in Jammu Kashmir, stating, “Due to unprecedented unemployment, many young people are struggling with depression and drug abuse.”

She reaffirmed the PDP’s commitment to peace-building efforts, which include ceasefire agreements, amnesty for thousands of youth, dialogue with separatists, and infrastructure development aimed at achieving sustainable peace in Kashmir.

Additionally, Mufti welcomed the participation of Jamaat-e-Islami in the democratic process and highlighted the PDP’s support for political engagement and reconciliation across different ideologies.
