Lambasting at the central government over the inclusion of non-local voters in JK’s voter list, the Former Chief Minister of Jammu Kashmir Mehbooba Mufti took to Twitter and said the “settler colonial” project had started in Jammu Kashmir with Election Commission’s latest order.

On Tuesday, the Deputy commissioner of Jammu called for the registration of non-locals who have been living in Jammu for more than a year in Jammu Kashmir’s voter list.

The order accessed by The Kashmiriyat read that any of the documents including Water/Electricity/ Gas Connection for one year, Aadhar Card, Current Passbook of Nationalized/ Scheduled Bank/ Post Office, Indian Passport, Revenue Department’s Land Owning Record including Kisan Bahi, Registered Rent/ Lease Deed (in case of Tenant), Registered Sale Deed in case of own house can be accepted as proof of residence.

“ECI’s latest order for registration of new voters makes it clear that GOIs colonial settler project has been initiated in Jammu. They will bear the first blow to Dogra culture, identity, employment & business,” she wrote in a tweet.

Mehbooba Mufti further said, “BJPs attempts to create religious & regional divisions between Jammu & Kashmir must be thwarted because whether its a Kashmiri or a Dogra, safeguarding our identity & rights will be possible only if we put up a collective fight.”
