Militants killed in Batpora encounter were Kulgam residents

Two militants were killed during the ongoing encounter that raged between militants and Government forces in the Batpora area of Kulgam district, Police said.

Earlier, An official told The Kashmiriyat that on Tuesday afternoon, 34 RR of the Indian Army, Jammu Kashmir Police and CRPF jointly laid a cordon and search operation in the Batpora area on specific information generated by police.

During the cordon, the hiding militant opened fire on forces triggering an encounter.

Two militants were killed during the encounter, who were identified as Mohammed Shafi Gani, a resident of Batpora in Kulgam and Yawar Ahmed Wani (Asif), a resident of Gopalpora, Kulgam.

“The killed 02 categorised JeM #terrorists have been identified as Mohammed Shafi Ganie of Batpora, #Kulgam & Mohammad Asif Wani @ Yawar of Takia Gopalpora, Kulgam. 02 AK 47 rifles, ammunition recovered,” police tweeted.

Officials told The Kashmiriyat that Mohammed Shafi Ganie son of Jahangir Ahmad Ganie, who is a resident of Batpora Kulgam had gone missing from his home on 03 April, 2022.

Yawar Ahmed Wani (Asif) son of Dilawar Ahmed Wani, who is a resident of Takiya had joined militancy on June 01, 2022.

According to official data, seven militants have been killed in five encounters in the southern districts of Kashmir so far this month while 142 militants have been killed so far this year, of which 34 were foreigners.
