Anjuman Auqaf Jama Masjid Srinagar has expressed strong resentment against the continuous detention of its head Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir Dr Moulvi Muhammad Umar Farooq, who has been under house arrest for nearly four years.

In a statement issued to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the Auqaf said that today is the 196th consecutive Friday when Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir was neither allowed to perform the important duty of Friday prayer nor carry out his religious duties, which is extremely sad and condemnable.

Due to his continued detention, the centuries-old pulpit and mihraab of the historic Central Jama Masjid Srinagar continue to be silent which otherwise in the presence of Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir used to reverberate with the calls of Qaal Allah Wa Qaala Rasool (SAW), the Anjuman said.

Meanwhile, the Anjuman has announced that it will organise a Hajj training programme this year, in the auditorium of the Islamia School Rajouri Kadal, on Tuesday, May 30, 2023 at 11:00 am, for the practical training of the pilgrims of Kashmir.

Valley’s renowned religious scholar Mufti Nazir Ahmad Al-Qasimi, who is Sheik-ul-Hadith Darul Uloom Raheemiya Bandipora, will provide practical guidance to the pilgrims regarding Hajj.

Apart from this, the details of Hajj rituals in audio and video form will also be presented for the pilgrims through a projector.

The Anjuman has requested the pilgrims, especially those of Srinagar city, to benefit from this Hajj training programme—(KNO)
