Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has been listed among the 500 most influential muslims around globe by the Royal Islamic Strategic Studies Centre, Jordan.
The religious scholar who has been under detention since 04 August, 2019 has been placed with Ayatollah Khamenei of Iran, Former Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan, Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, King Abdullah of Jordan and King Salman of Saudi Arabia.
On Mirwaiz, RISSC Jordan according to statement said, “He has been advocating dialogue with both India and Pakistan so that the aspirations of the Kashmiri people may be realised.”
Specifically mentioning Mirwaiz’s arrest, it stated that the cleric has been under house arrest since August 2019.
