MLA Advocate Irfan Hafiz Lone, on Thursday evening, staged a protest in Baramulla district against the killing of Wasim Mir, a 35-year-old truck driver from Sopore, who was allegedly killed by the army in Baramulla earlier today.
In the candlelight march, the MLA of Wagoora-Kreeri, Baramulla, expressed solidarity with the families of the innocent civilians killed in Jammu Kashmir recently.
Advocate Irfan Hafiz Lone urged India to uphold Mahatama Gandhi’s principle of ‘Ahimsa’ (non-violence). “This is the country of Gandhi, which stood up for Ahimsa for every issue.”
“Bullets speak only one language, that is blood, death, and destruction”, Advocate Irfan Hafiz Lone said.
“Be it the innocent killings of Sopore, Jammu, or Kulgam, we express our compassion for their families, but, this is a brazen human rights violation, this innocent killing should have not happened. This is the murder of humanity”, Hafiz told the protestors.
Hafiz who also represented the case of Article 370 in India’s Apex court, said that the central government had forcibly snatched our rights. He further said, “India revoked our rights, the state was downgraded into a Union Territory, promises of employment and upliftment were made, yet nothing happened, in fact the central government has promoted a culture of non-accountability, and dissent gets labeled as anti-national.”
Appealing to the government of India and the people of the country, to prevent Baramulla-like civilian killings, he said, “We need accountability. We honor the men in uniform, but the officer involved in this killing should be held accountable. Result-oriented enquiry should be taken and the victims should get justice”.
“Wasim Mir’s mother does not deserve this, he did not deserve this either”, Irfan Hafiz Lone concluded.
