Manjinder Singh Sirsa, former Akali Dal leader and Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee chief, joined the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today.

Sirsa, who had stood in solidarity with Muslims during their agitation against CAA and NRC, recently created a controversy over love jihad in Kashmir. In June this year, he falsely alleged that Sikh girls are being converted to Islam and married to Muslim men. He demanded a law mandating permission of parents for interfaith marriages in Kashmir.

He was one of the Sikh leaders who helped re-marriage of a woman with a Sikh man after her legal marriage with a Muslim man in Kashmir.

Several individuals have expressed their astonishment over his decision to join the BJP. They have cited his previous stances against farm laws, CAA and love jihad bogey to expose his hypocrisy.
