Quoting officials, Press Trust of India reported that the house had come up on state land. “It was demolished by the district administration in the presence of police,” the report added.

Pertinently, Nengroo is wanted in the 2019 Pulwama attack in which 40 CRPF personnel were killed.

On April 18, Ashiq Ahmed Nengroo, a dreaded was designated as a “terrorist” by the central government for his involvement in various militancy-related incidents in Jammu Kashmir.

In a notification, the Union home ministry said Nengroo has been involved in the infiltration of militants into Jammu Kashmir and has also been responsible for perpetrating various attacks in Jammu Kashmir.

Nengroo is from Pulwama in South Kashmir and is currently operating from Kotli in Pakistan-administered Kashmir.

Ashiq’s brother Abbas Negroo was killed during an encounter with Government forces in 2014. His third brother Reyaz Negroo is presently jailed for his involvement in a militancy case.

His youngest brother Maznoor Ahmed Negroo was, in September, found dead in the Naadpora area of Shopian under “mysterious” circumstance.

The Jammu Kashmir Police in its statement on Manzoor’s killing was due to group rivalry between militant groups. “Investigation of case is vigorously going on in a very professional manner & those terrorists involved in the crime will be identified soon & dealt strictly under law,” Jammu Kashmir police had said.
