Muslim Man Booked Under Gangster Act in a Police Station that Doesn’t Exist, Denied Bail for 3 Months

30-year-old car mechanic, Munawwar, was denied bail for three months since the court was deluded by the police that he was a ”dread criminal”, who was booked under the stringent Gangsters Act in 2015 at the Akbarabad police station of Amroha district, which is a non existing police station.

The Allahabad High Court while hearing the bail application on Saturday exposed the fabrication. It said that Amit Kumar, the sub-inspector of Kotwali Police Station in Bijnor district of West UP, misinformed (through additional government advocate-AGA) about a case having been registered at a non-existing police station.

The court issued a show-cause notice to Kumar. The next hearing is scheduled on 8 July.

Manavvar was arrested from his home in Roorkee by Bijnor police on the evening of March 31 while he was busy playing with his seven-month-old son. He was accused of being part of an interstate auto-lifter gang.

During previous hearings, Munawar’s counsel had informed the court that his client was falsely inflicted with the recovery of some cars along with motorcycles, along with a number of other co-accused.
