National Conference (NC) MP Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi met separatist leader and Hurriyat Conference chief Mirwaiz Umar Farooq in Delhi on Wednesday, engaging in discussions over Jammu Kashmir’s political landscape and the broader concerns of the Muslim community in India, according to sources close to both leaders.
Mirwaiz has been in Delhi since his appearance before the Joint Parliamentary Committee on the Waqf Bill on January 24.
During their meeting, which lasted over an hour, Mehdi and Mirwaiz reportedly spoke about the situation in Kashmir following the abrogation of Article 370, the demand for statehood restoration, and the release of political prisoners.
They also discussed the proposed amendments to the Waqf Bill and the socio-political challenges faced by Muslims in the country.
Confirming the meeting, Mirwaiz stated, “Yes, he (Mehdi) came to visit me. He is in Delhi for the Parliament session, and it was a courtesy call to me as Mirwaiz.”
The two leaders also touched upon the concerns of Kashmiri youth and the ongoing controversy over the reservation policy.
