‘No Infighting over Seat-Sharing in PAGD’- JKNC, PDP File Eight Candidates Each

The People’s Alliance for Gupkar declaration (GAPD)- an amalgam of the mainstream parties in Kashmir fighting for the restoration of the special status of Jammu Kashmir has announced the second list of candidates for the upcoming District development council polls.

Ridiculing the reports of infighting over the seat-sharing, Sources from within the GAPD told The Kashmiriyat that the seat- distribution took place in a cordial atmosphere, and everyone with the GAPD is keen on the goal of restoration of special status of Jammu Kashmir.

He said the parties mutually decided to field candidates in consideration of the outreach of each party in a particular area “The reports of infighting are just baseless.”

The List of the candidates fielded by PAGD accessed by The Kashmiriyat shows that both National Conference and People’s Democratic party have agreed to field eight candidates each.

Five candidates from Sajad Lone’s People’s conference will file nominations while three from Congress, Two from Jammu Kashmir’s People’s Movement and one from Awami National conference will also be contesting the elections.

People’s Democratic party will contest the Kunzer Baramulla, Pombay Kulgam, DK Marg Kulgam, Tangdar Kupwara, Nowgam Bandipora, Kanjiullar Shopian, Khanmoh – III Srinagar, and Kangan Kanagn A Ganderbal seats.

The National Conference has filed candidates for the Manzgam Kulgam, Shadimarg Pulwama, Khag Budgam, Beerwah Bugdam, Ramnagri Shopian, Kanan B Ganderbal, Kangan C Ganderbal, and Srinagar-III.

Congress will be contesting the Zaingeer Baramulla Congress, Shangus Anantnag, Tral Pulwama seats.

The Sajad Lone’s People’s conference will contest the Ramhal Kupwara, Reddi Chowkibal Kupwara, Ganastan Bandipora, Qamarwari – I Srinagar and Qamarwari -II Srinagar.

A total of 352 candidates have filed their nomination papers, Of the 43 seats, 25 are in the Kashmir Valley and 18 in the Jammu region.

Meanwhile the PAGD is confident of victory in the Kashmir and the Chenab valley region and say that the tough fight is the Jammu with the Bhartiya Janta party. “We will easily win in Kashmir and Chenab valley but our contest would be with BJP in Jammu region,” a senior member of the PAGD told The Kashmiriyat.

“People have to understand that this time the fight is directly against BJP, the people in Jammu, Ladakh and everywhere else in erstwhile state of Jammu Kashmir are angry with what happened on August 05, we have to fight this fight unitedly,” the member said.
