Protests hit the Central University of Kashmir in Ganderbal on Monday morning over the death of a fellow student in a rented accommodation.

Alleging that the CUK administration was forcing students to live outside by not providing hostels, the students of the university staged the protest outside the gate of the university.

“We come from far-flung areas of Kashmir and the university does not provide us hostel facilities, so we have been forced to rent rooms outside,” a protesting student Janib told The Kashmiriyat.

A female student, who was a resident of Poonch district died by suffocation at a rented accommodation in the Saloora area of Ganderbal, while her roommate is hospitalized in a critical condition.

The students from various areas of Kashmir said that they have been suffering immensely as the CUK administration has denied them hostels.

“After a hard struggle, we finally availed transportation facilities for the students, but they are not considering our genuine plea about the accommodation facilities, they also do not provide us heating facilities,” Janib said.

The students alleged that they have approached the CUK administration several times, but to no avail.
