On International Women’s day, Police pledges to make Srinagar Safe for women

The district police Srinagar on the eve of  International Women’s Day launched a drive with an aim to ensure ease of living for the womenfolk.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Srinagar, Dr. Haseeb Mughal as per the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) said that the reports of eve-teasing are coming to the fore, thus “on this particular day for women, we have launched a campaign to create an atmosphere where the womenfolk could live happily without any difficulties like domestic violence and eve-teasing.”

He said that posters will be pasted in public transport and other places to create awareness in this regard.

Dr. Mughal when asked whether there is a rise in domestic violence cases, said that the increase in population is certainly leading to an increase in such cases, adding that such cases have got mounted due to mental stress caused to the people in wake of the loss in business and lockdown during COVID outbreak.

Asked whether the special police station will be established, SSP Srinagar said that although there is a need of establishing special police stations for women, at present, the ladies police have been deputed at every police station to look into the issues of women.

He added that besides the police recently established a helpline for women where they can register their complaints—(KNO)
