As more and more Militants continue to go underground and silent recruitment takes the centre stage across the Kashmir valley, the Indian Security agencies have found that the Militants are now using online training for the new recruits.
Operation All Out of launched by Government Forces in Jammu Kashmir in 2017, may have yielded results as hundreds of Militants have been killed, however, security forces have time and again expressed growing concern about recruitments into Militant groups.
This latest revelation came forth during the interrogation of the four Militant suspects picked up by Jammu Kashmir Police in Anantnag during multiple raids. In a press statement received by The Kashmiriyat, Anantnag Police said that it busted a Militant module wherein Police apprehended four Militancy accused who were using online platforms to train the youth of the area in crimes. They were also motivating them to join the proscribed Militant organisation of Lashkar-e-Toiba and Hizbul Mujahideen.
As per Sources, the Militants are now using hi-tech gadgets in increasing the attacks on Government Forces and their recruitments. Online training is also being provided to recruit youth into Militant groups. The four accused Lashkar e Taiba over ground workers have during the course of investigation revealed that on the behalf of Militant commanders, their helpers have been engaged in speeding up Militant activities in the Kashmir valley so that Militant groups can recruit youth into their ranks.
Following a tip-off, the Jammu Kashmir Police based in Anantnag arrested one Aamir Reyaz Lone who is a resident of Baramulla. Electronic devices and other incriminating materials were recovered from his possession and during the course of the investigation, it was found that Aamir was in contact with an active Lashkar Militant namely Hilal Sheikh, who is a resident of Baramulla.
His disclosure led to the arrest of Owais Ahmad Shaksaz a resident of Seer Hamdan, Anantnag who allegedly was in the process of making an Improvised Explosive Devices. During further investigation, two more accused namely Suhaib Muzaffar Qazi, a resident of Qazi Mohalla, Rajpora, Pulwama and Tariq Ahmed Dar, a resident of Qaimuh, Kulgam were arrested by Anantnag Police.
According to Sources, the four were provided online training to be later recruited into Militant outfits. The four have allegedly revealed during the investigation that they were in contact with the Militant commanders who had asked them to pass the training on to the other youth.
The task the four had been assigned was to locate the youth who had an inclination towards Militancy and then bring them in contact with the commanders.
Silent Recruitment
The recent “Terror Mapping Report” prepared by Security agencies reveals that South Kashmir continues to be a breeding ground for Militants and recruitments in various Militant outfits. According to the report, a total of 57 Youth were recruited in Jammu Kashmir from January to June this year, while several others have gone missing. Out of the total 52 recruits, 82 per cent were recruited from the districts of South Kashmir. The report further reveals that the maximum number of millitants were recruited in Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT).
The district-wise list from North Kashmir revealed that Four youths from the Baramulla district stepped into the world of Militancy, while one youth from the Bandipora district had also been recruited into the Militant outfit Lashkar e Taiba.
In South Kashmir, a total of 21 youths from Pulwama, 16 from Shopian, 6 from Kulgam and 4 from Anantnag also joined various Militant outfits.
The Security agencies say that in Kashmir they have counselled hundreds of youth in the last year and since 2016 and stopped them from joining Militant outfits. It may also be noted that the trend of Militants surrendering during encounters saw a surge in 2020. The death of top commanders of Hizb ul Mujahideen (the Prominent Miltant outfit from Kashmir) Riyaz Naikoo and Dr Saifullah’s deaths at the hand of the Government forces, that too in less than eight months, is believed to have dealt a massive blow to Hizbul Mujahideen.
In an attempt to check on the Militant recruitment in the region, the Security agencies also stopped handing over the dead bodies of the Militants to their families for funerals. The funerals of Militants which till 2020 April, gathered mass crowds, were conducted silently away from their people, in front of a limited number of family members.
