‘Our Trucks Being Stopped on Highway’- Traders Stage Protest in Sopore against Blockade

Scores of traders on Monday staged a Peaceful protest at Asia’s largest fruit Mandi in Sopore.

Various Fruit Mandi Transporters and businessman in Kashmir’s Baramulla district against what they said ‘halting of fruit-laden trucks along Srinagar-Jammu highway by the police and in this regard scores of traders assembled in the premises of Sopore Fruit Mandi and held a protest against the authorities for “unnecessarily” stopping fruit laden trucks on Srinagar-Jammu highway.

The protesting traders speakong to The Kashmiriyat said that they have been facing huge losses as the loaded fruits rot on the highway due to the continuous stoppage of trucks.

They warned that they would suspend trade at Fruit Mandi Sopore in case law enforcement agencies continued to stop fruit and vegetable-laden trucks on the national highway and they said that this is the season of festivities and Diwali is round the corner and we are suffering bad time.

Sopore Fruit Mandi president, Fayaz Ahamd Malik told The Kashmiriyat that the traders have faced losses of around Rs 15,000 crores after the abrogation of Article 370 last year and due to unnecessary stoppage of fruit-laden trucks by police at several places along Srinagar-Jammu highway.

He said the authorities keep on turning a blind eye towards this issue.

We have time and again requested the concerned authorities and again we request the LG administration to look into the matter and solve this issue once for all as we have been going torrid times due to covid and last years Aug 05 decisions.
