Over 500 families facing uncertainty due to current waiting list regulations, causing concerns among the families.
In a press release issued to The Kashmiriyat, the students said that despite their names appearing on these lists, many candidates are losing hope as the recent wave of mass resignations renders these lists practically meaningless, leaving their futures in limbo. The region’s exams, which often take 3-4 years to complete, further exacerbate the situation.
“In stark contrast to states like Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, and Gujarat, where youth employment is a priority and timely measures are taken, Jammu and Kashmir’s silence is deafening,” a concerned candidate told The Kashmiriyat.
“How long must these voices go unheard? How long must families endure this hardship? There is an urgent call for justice and immediate action to amend the waiting list rules to account for resignations.”
Recent mass resignations across various departments in Jammu and Kashmir—including JE (R&B), JE (Jal Shakti), Finance Accounts Assistant, JKPSI, VLW, Stock Assistant, and others—have left significant vacancies. The situation is exacerbated by delays in recruitment drives and ongoing court proceedings. Current regulations fail to address vacancies caused by resignations, leaving deserving candidates without opportunities.
“We urgently appeal to the government to amend the waiting list rules to account for resignations, as is practiced in other states,” urged another affected individual. “This change is essential for maximizing resource utilization and ensuring that qualified candidates are not denied opportunities. We request that the government fill the vacancies resulting from resignations with candidates next in line on the waiting list, providing much-needed relief and livelihood to those who have earned it.”
Mohammed Yusuf Tarigami, senior Kashmiri politician, the administration must address the legitimate concerns of waiting list candidates seeking government jobs to ensure that vacancies resulting from mass resignations are filled by those next in merit. “To facilitate this, its essential for the administration to revise the waiting list regulations, easing the current rules or giving one-time relaxation to save the future of youth and their families, and taking into account early resignations for positions like JEs & VLW,” said Tarigami.
