Six people, including a policeman and three Rangers officials, were killed, and over 100 others sustained injuries during three days of violent protests in Pakistan following the arrest of former Prime Minister Imran Khan.

The clashes erupted as Khan’s supporters took to the streets, clashing with security forces and causing widespread chaos, Dawn reported.

The Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) confirmed the civilian casualties, while injuries were reported from several cities, including Islamabad, Lahore, Karachi, and Peshawar.

Protesters burned vehicles, vandalized public property, and even stormed military installations, prompting a heavy crackdown by law enforcement agencies.

Imran Khan, who was arrested on corruption charges, accused the government of orchestrating a campaign to silence him.

His arrest has further polarized the nation, with opposition parties accusing the government of using repressive measures to curb dissent.

The government has deployed additional security forces and imposed section 144 in major cities to prevent further violence.

Authorities have also blocked social media platforms and suspended mobile internet services in an effort to curb the unrest.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, condemning the violence, stated that the state would not tolerate attacks on security forces or public property.

Meanwhile, human rights organizations have expressed concerns over the use of excessive force by the authorities and the mass arrests of Khan’s supporters.

The political turmoil has heightened tensions in Pakistan, already grappling with economic instability and social unrest.

Observers warn that the situation could escalate further if efforts for dialogue are not initiated soon.
