PDD Employees Ask People for 1 Lakh Bribe to Get Wire Removed

The residents of Shirpora area in South Kashmir’s Islamabad (anantnag) district have accused the PDD employees of demanding bribe from the locals.

A resident alleged that the employees of Power Development department asked them for one lakh rupees for getting a low tension wire removed.

The employees against rules asked people for bribe for performing their duty.

“They have taken fourty thousand in advance from the locals,” a local said.

“We did not know about the rules, we thought it was mandatory to pay the amount, we thought it was the office of PDD Charging us,” the local told.

“The employees took 60,000 in advance and asked the residents to pay the remaining amount after the work was done,” a resident told The Kashmiriyat over phone.

The Kashmiriyat reported the issue to the Deputy commissioner who said he will taken stern action against the accused employees.

The ADDC for this South Kashmir district has also been appraised of the said issue.

Senior Engineer (SE) of Power Development Department (PDD) for South Circle, Mr. Khanday after being provided receipts of the cheque given by locals said that, “We have sought explanation from the accused employees.”

The Assistant Executive Engineer asked people not to pay such huge amounts. “If people have to get any demands fulfilled, they can write a formal application to the department.”

The Locals of the area demanded action against the accused employees. “The authorities asked the DC and the concerned authorities of the PDD to intervene into the matter.”
