‘Poet, Journalist, great human being’: Kashmir pays tribute to life and legacy of Ghulam Nabi Khayal

The death of Ghulam Nabi Khayal, a noted writer and a journalist is being widely condoled by people across various sections of the society.

Khayal, who was chief editor of weekly Voice of Kashmir was unwell from past several months and finally breathed his last Sunday morning.

He has authored 30 books in Kashmiri, Urdu and English.

In his condolence message, Dr. Farooq Abdullah said, “The news of the passing away of Khayal sahib has saddened me. He has left an indelible mark on literary circles of Kashmir as an eminent writer, journalist and translator. I extend my heartfelt condolences and sympathies to his bereaved family and numerous fans. May Almighty elevate his stations in Jannat.”

In a statement, the former chief minister of Jammu Kashmir Mehbooba Mufti Mufti said that the sad demise of Khayal Sahab has left a void in the literary landscape of Jammu Kashmir.

“Ghulam Nabi Khayal Sahab was a veteran writer and journalist who had dedicated his life to the pursuit of knowledge and the promotion of the rich cultural heritage of Kashmir. His contributions to the literary and journalistic field were vast and significant, and he leaves behind a legacy that will continue to inspire generations of writers and journalists,” she stated.

“Deeply saddened by the passing away of Ghulam Nabi Khayal, a prolific writer who authored over a dozen books. Through his literary brilliance, he eloquently captured the complexities of the society. Heartfelt condolences to the family and friends,” Mohammed Yousuf Tarigami in his condolence message said.

“Heartfelt condolences to the family of Ghulam Nabi Khayal sahib. A poet, a journalist and above all a great human being. Have known Khayal sahib since my school days. Knew the whole family. Khayal Sahib lived in Sanatnagar colony. He was the elederly neighbour who was very affectionate,” Sajad Lone, the chairman of People’s Conference said.

Altaf Bukhari, in his condolence message, said, “Khayal Sahib was a son of the soil, whose remarkable contributions to the realms of literature and journalism stand unmatched. I am profoundly saddened by his demise. May his soul find eternal peace, and may Allah bestow His choicest blessings on his grave. I extend my heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family.”

Director Information, Minga Sherpa has also condoled the sad demise.

In his condolence message, GA Mir of congress said G. N. Khayal was an eminent writer and author of thirty books, who has greatly contributed to the society through his pen.His passing away is a great loss to writer’s fraternity and people of Jammu and Kashmir, as well.
