Police bust gang of vehicle lifters, arrest 4 accused, recover 9 vehicles, 2 bikes

Police in Central Kashmir’s Budgam busted an inter-district gang of vehicle lifters, arrested four accused and recovered eleven stolen vehicles from them.

While divulging information, a police spokesperson said that in the second week of this month, Police station Budgam received information that a group of carjackers/thieves are operating in Budgam area who are involved in car theft in the district and other parts of Kashmir valley and also from outside Valley.

“The modus operandi of the said gang was to do the car theft, change their registration numbers (sometimes even change the body colour of the stolen vehicle), prepare fake, forged documents and then sell the car on cheaper rates.”

During the course of the investigation, the police party of police station Budgam raided various places in the district and recovered 11 stolen cars and motorcycles which include 3 Alto 800, a Hyundai Creta and 2 Vitara Breeza, one Alto K-10, Maruti Baleno, Skoda, a pulsar motorcycle and one Hero Honda bike.

Police spokesperson as per news agency Kashmir News Trust said that 4 accused have been arrested. He identified them as Firdous Rasheed Beigh and Reyaz Gani both residents of Nasrullahpora Budgam, Ajaz Bashir Mandoo of Rawalpora, and Irshad Sultan Bhat of Bugroo Khansahab.

The spokesperson said that the involvement of 3 more persons has been established, who are evading arrest.

“More arrests and recoveries of stolen vehicles in the instant case are expected during the investigation,” he added. (KNT)
