Police in north Kashmir’s Pattan have resolved a blind hit-and-run case, arresting the driver involved and seizing the vehicle from Budgam district, officials said Wednesday.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Shah Jahan, addressing the media, revealed that on November 15, 2024, Police Post Palhallan received a report about a hit-and-run incident.
The accident involved an unidentified vehicle traveling from Baramulla towards Srinagar, which struck a pedestrian near Parsa’s Restaurant in Palhallan.
“The victim, Nazir Ahmadi Sofi, son of Late Abdul Ahad Sofi of Saderbal Palhallan, was critically injured in the incident. Despite being rushed to the hospital, he succumbed to his injuries,” said DSP Shah Jahan.
Acting swiftly, the police registered FIR No. 314/2024 under sections 281, 125A, and 106 of the BNS Act at Police Station Pattan. Investigators, using advanced tracking methods and technical assistance, traced the vehicle involved—a white car bearing registration number JK04J-0917—on November 26.
“The vehicle bore clear impact marks from the accident. However, it had been freshly painted white, apparently in an attempt to conceal evidence,” the DSP added.
The accused driver, identified as Ahmad Parray, son of Ab. Rashid Parray, a resident of Bun Zanigam in Budgam, was apprehended and subsequently arrested.
DSP Shah Jahan praised the investigating team’s efforts. “The swift action and diligent investigation by the police ensured justice for the victim and brought the culprit to account,” he said.
The police have urged the public to report any such incidents promptly to facilitate swift investigations.
