Poonch alleged custodial killings: Army transfers 4 officers, Police lodges FIR

Following the tragic death of three civilians, the Army has shifted Brigadier Padam Acharya, the Brigade Commander of the Rashtriya Rifles, along with three other senior officers from the unit responsible for operations in Surankote.

The Army is considering disciplinary measures pending internal investigations, reported Daily Excelsior.

Despite the lack of official information, officials assure that the condition of the 10 injured civilians is stable, and a thorough internal inquiry into the civilian deaths is underway.

Police have filed a First Information Report (FIR) regarding the civilian deaths, and there are allegations that the individuals were picked up by the Army for questioning in connection with the killing of four Army jawans on December 21.

The Army has pledged full support for the investigation, while both the Jammu Kashmir police and the Army conduct separate probes.

The community affected by the incident, known for its support in anti-militancy operations, is reportedly feeling deeply hurt.

The civil administration has announced compensation and compassionate appointments for the families of the deceased. Army Chief Gen Manoj Pande is scheduled to visit Jammu to assess the security situation following recent encounters.

The Army is actively involved in operations to track down terrorists in the Rajouri and Poonch districts, where a significant number of terrorists are reportedly hiding.

A wreath-laying ceremony was held for the soldiers who lost their lives in the recent ambush, and mobile internet services remain suspended in the affected areas.

The Defence Ministry is expected to send a team to assess the ground situation and address the recent surge in terror activities.

Meanwhile, ongoing search and cordon operations involve collaboration between the Army, para commandos, paramilitary forces, and local assistance.
